Ken Wilson

A few words about our friend, Ken Wilson

Outside Ken Wilson News

Outside Ken Wilson NewsIt is always a sad and reflective moment when a pivotal figure leaves the scene and Ken was as big a figure in British climbing as they come.

His  dedication, enthusiasm and professionalism as the UK's premier climbing journalist and commentator was unmatched throughout the years of climbing's post-war evolution; from the heroic days of hemp and stiff upper lip to today's technology rich ascents, main stream bouldering and superhuman performances.

Throughout his life he articulated the dilemmas of a rapidly developing sport and set up the debate, to which he always made strong contributions! His Mountain magazine became the most authoritative 'organ' in World climbing and in his subsequent career as a publisher he created iconic climbing books (Hard Rock etc) which have become valued collectors pieces.

Ken wasn't everyone's 'cup of tea' as he was a formidable character with strong views on everything. His passion for climbing and climbers was an elemental force tempered by humour and great humanity. His fight with the onset of dementia took him away from us too early and we all miss him greatly.
