I’ve had the Rab Cirrus Flex jacket for a couple of months now and it’s proved to be a solid all-rounder. Its been camping, trad climbing and even on a rare trip to the ‘Big Smoke’ (London, not Sheffield in case you were wondering).

It’s a trim, well fitting jacket with stretch panels at the side and underarm and the synthetic filled insulation panels to cover your core. This gives it optimum warmth and great movement with virtually no arm lift when you are climbing. It also layers up really well, and the DWR ripstop outer will shrug off spring showers.

The synthetic 3M Cirrus insulation attempts to mimic the properties of down and it achieves this fairly well. Instead of using a batt of synthetic fibres, the filament fibres are cut into staple lengths and used as a ‘loose-fill’ in the same way as you would use down. This gives the Cirrus Flex great compression and packability and because the fill is synthetic, it doesn’t lose its loft and remains warm even when wet.

This makes it a good jacket to go anywhere and do anything...except perhaps swimming; other than that, it’s got you covered!
