Eric Vola (the editor) writes:

For several years I tried to have Mick Fowler and Victor Saunders' books - or at least one each - published in French, to no avail. So I decided to make a brand new book in selecting their best texts of their common climbs and expeditions and to intertwine them, giving two views, different but always complementary and enriching of the same events. I had noticed how well those two climbers complemented each other while having very different characters in life and very different writing styles. Sharp, direct, always positive and responsive for Mick, complex, tortuous, digressive but extremely attentive of the people around him and their culture for Victor. The "slippery" nickname his climbing friends gave him in his youth was quite well chosen and is still at times valid today. Victor never stopped to like following unusual sideways. The sharing of those different styles make a very new book of their adventures. For me it is a typical case of 1+1 = 3.

And when the French version was published in France in 2015, it won the Grand Prize of the Passy Mountain Books Festival. It impressed the French climbers and as the jury acclaimed an « invigorating, exciting book, full of facetious and surprising anecdotes and also a story of men and friendship.” This pushed Mick and Victor to reunite 29 years after their last adventure (Mick was then 60 and Victor 66) to make a splendid first ascent of the North face of Sersank, a 6050 m unclimbed peak, of course alpine style and of course, I intertwined their own tales of this ascent as an addition in the English version. Enjoy this book as I enjoyed setting it up.
