When the The North Face asked if Robert and I would like to come to Zermatt for a few days to test next year’s gear, it didn't take much thought. 150 outdoor types from all over the globe were whisked to Switzerland last week to hear the latest news from the North Face and more importantly, to try out their newest product on the ice and slopes.
After a quick overview, kit was handed out and we headed to the lifts. We spent the first day climbing some short but very steep ice under the view of the majestic Matterhorn. Stunning weather and good ice made it a great yet mellow day. The North Face’s top athletes joined us - it felt strange to be belayed by David Lama and Simone Moro amongst others.
Day two saw us head to the slopes. Neither of us had skied for years, however with perfect snow, good weather and the view of the Matterhorn to inspire us it soon came back.
We were blown away with the effort The North Face put into the event and incredibly thankful for the amazing opportunity. We were one of the smallest businesses there and it's great to see that brands still regard Outside as a vital part of the UK outdoor industry. It is exciting times for The North Face with big technical and and ethical advances coming next winter. Watch this space!
