National 3 Peaks Cycle Challenge-New World Record

42hrs 55mins - a new record for the National 3 Peaks Cycle Challenge!

Three lads from Yorkshire, Dug Wilders, Spike Ambery-Smith and Andy Graham have just smashed the previous record set just a month ago, with a time of 42hrs 55mins for the 703km of cycling and 41.6km of running.

The classic National 3 Peaks Challenge consists of an ascent of Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis within 24hrs, with success or failure often resting on finding a driver who's prepared to go the distance and whether or not you get stuck in traffic on the way. Cycling between the three in a single push is significantly more challenging, and was first conceived and achieved by John McAvoy, Nick Hudson and Graeme Widdup back in 2008

We tried to speak to Andy just after completing their epic ride, but to be honest he was just rambling incoherently. This is what we managed to get out of him:

We set off up Snowdon via the Pyg Track at 2:30am on Friday, summited at 03:15, got down, had porridge, then set off for the Lakes at 05:21. Got to Seathwaite 12hrs 11mins later up and down Scafell then off to Scotland 9:50pm. started up the Ben at 5:10pm Saturday and finished the whole thing 4hrs 15mins later at 9:25pm. BOOM!

National 3 Peaks Cycle Challenge-New World Record Can you tell these two men have been awake for over 40hrs?

Did you sleep at all?

Well, I got heat exhaustion going up Scafell so I had a bit of a sit down for a while but I was kind of too tired to sleep. Dug fell asleep while eating a banana. There's a video somewhere. We'll have to put it on YouTube, it was hilarious.
