Glossary - Lumens close

A measure of the power of light perceived by the human eye.  Different manufacturers measure lumens in different ways and it is always worth referring directly to the manufacturers website to determine how they measure light output for thier head lamps.

The Petzl eLite

Petzl's tiny emergency back-up headtorch has now been updated with a few clever touches. The elastic headband has an integrated whistle and the light can be easily mounted on wrist, pack, tent, etc, as well as your head. There is also new hardware inside, with a brighter LED output.

It should be remembered that Petzl designed the e+LITE to be an emergency backup to your main headtorch. It has a relatively low light output, but makes a great beacon (with its red LEDs) or gives you enough light to change the batteries in your main headtorch, and the red and white light options make it a great fail-safe for cyclists, too. It can be stored with its batteries for up to ten years, meaning that it can be thrown in your pack and be relied on when you need it most.
