Get Ready for the Hope Wakes Fell Race 2012!
The Hope Wakes Fell Race takes place in under four weeks (Wednesday 27th June), and this year is celebrating its 66th birthday. The race is one of the oldest in Derbyshire and was first run in 1946, although it has has a few years holiday during since then. In 2009 the course was changed to make it more demanding and it now covers 5.9 miles with 452 metres of ascent. Since 2007 the race has raised a great deal of money for local charities.
The race starts at Hope Sports Field and there are four categories to enter, catering to all ages. The Seniors and U18's run the same route, while the Junior and Children's events run courses which comply with distances prescribed by the Fell Running Association. The main course is given the PM and BS ratings which stand for Course Partially Marked and Ascent Category B/Distance Category Short meaning it is among the less commiting routes, albeit one with an ascent of Win Hill.
The entry fee is £5, of which £1 is donated to charity. There will be goodies, refreshments and loads of prizes from ourselves, Rab and many local businesses.
Outside have been a Main Sponsor of the Hope Wakes Fell Race for the last five years and are proud to support this great local event.
