Luck of the Draw - Outside Staff Enjoy the Last Week of Winter in Scotland.

Some time ago my brother, climbing partner Aidan and I booked 5 days off in mid March hoping that winter climbing conditions would be great in Scotland. Weather reports made us very confused the week before we were due to depart, with huge amounts of snow falling and massive avalance risk. We pulled over when we were passing The Lake District on our way north and considered sacking it all off, but decided WHAT THE HELL!

Good choice as it turned out to be one of the best short climbing trips ever. Very different weather days took us to The Cobbler, The Buchle, The Ben and Stob Corie nan Lochan in Glen Coe. The highlights have to be fat ice and clear skys on Hadrians Wall Direct and a very snowy Crest Route in Glen Coe. The snow was down to the sea and waist deep nearly everywhere on the hills. 2 days later a super, mega, turbo thaw got rid of it all!  Luck of the draw.
